Important Know-Hows Every ASM Member Should Be Aware Of
1.How to login onto the "Members Only" part of ASM International web site.
Go to ASM International, The Materials Information Society web site:
ASM International Web Site. Bookmark it as your favorite web site. We hope you will visit it often.
Click (yes, there is a lot of clicking these days) on "My ASM" tab (top left corner) to login as ASM Member:
a) If you are new to the ASM web site, use the "Create an account" link to setup your online account.
b) If you are already registered on the ASM web site, you are welcome to login.
For your login ID use your e-mail address or your six digits Member ID number (could be found on the mailing label on the Chapter's bulletin or any other mailing from ASM International).
Use your Last Name as a Password. The passwords are case sensitive.
Great, you did everything right!
And now you are looking at your personal "Welcome to My ASM [ Your Name ]" web page.
2. How to keep the addresses listed in your profile up to date.
Click on "Update My Account Profile" link.
Click on "Change Profile" on the bottom of the page.
Here you will be able to update any information on your profile, including: your e-mail address and regular mail addresses (business and residential). You also can indicate, which of these two addresses you would like to be the ASM billing address and which one will be used for all other mail from ASM International.
Important: This second address will be used by your local ASM Chapter to send you monthly Chapter bulletin with local materials community news, educational courses announcements, and with the invitations to monthly technical meetings.
To finish, click on the 'Update My Record" tab and you will be out of this page with all your addresses in good shape.
3. How to update your Technical Profile.
Click on "Update My Technical Profile", there you can edit your Technical Profile and indicate your other preferences regarding the communication with ASM International and with your local Chapter.
Important: Please remember that your local ASM Chapter completely relies on the e-mail address you provide to ASM International. So if you choose "not to receive information from ASM by e-mail", you will also cut yourself off from the Chapter’s e-mail. (Read more about the Chapter’s e-mail below, in paragraph 4)
On this page you could identify your technical interests, which will describe you in Online ASM Membership Directory and will also help your Chapter to better tailor its activities to the interests of our Members.
Click on "Update My Records" tab again and you are finished with this task.
Now you are ready to explore "Members only" benefits!
Come and see what are you paying your Membership fee for!
First stop is "Membership Directory". Just for fun try to find yourself. Try to find somebody you know in your professional field or ASM Members from particular company.
Second stop is…. Choose any topic from the tabs on the top of the web page or from the "Site Map" (on the bottom).
4. The handling of e-mails from the ASM Society and the Chapter.
You get two kinds of e-mails:
a) From ASM International Society with return address:
(person or department) name@asminternational.org.
All of them come from the same secure, trusted Society domain asminternational.org.
b) From your local Metro New York- New Jersey Chapter:
These e-mails are sent by two of Chapter’s officers: Dr. Robert Sherman (Chapter’s treasurer and webmaster) and Michael Gershkovich (Membership Chairman). In this case return addresses will be:
Co2clean@aol.com for Robert and
MichaelG77@comcast.net or ASMmembership@comcast.net for Michael.
The Chapter sends you only 2-4 messages per month and they are just plain text messages without attachments.
The point is that you can safely open e-mails from the following addresses:
