CO2 Snow Jet Cleaning

The CO2 snow jet cleaning process uses carbon dioxide to remove micron and submicron particles from surfaces at high efficiencies and also removes hydrocarbon based contamination. CO2 snow cleaning is nondestructive, nonabrasive, residue-free, and produces no chemical waste.

Applications

Many different cleaning applications have been successfully demonstrated:

  • contamination removal from metals, ceramics, polymers, and glasses
  • particle and stain removal from Si, InP, and GaAs wafers
  • cleaning optics, i.e., coated lenses, laser, IR and UV optics, fiber optics
  • sample preparation before surface analysis (Auger, XPS, SIMS) and AFM
  • general laboratory, production, and cleanroom cleaning
  • substrate preparation of all kinds
  • cleaning vacuum systems components including electron and ion optics, bellows, machined parts
  • removing particles from microelectronic and hybrid circuits
  • restoration after fires, art restoration; telescopes; and many more
  • telescopes, and many more

Equipment

Standard Units are the simplest and easiest way to get started. They can address both general and critical cleaning problems. These units come with either a 5 or 10 foot hose, a cylinder fitting, an on/off gun and two stainless steel nozzles: The asymmettric venturi is on the unit and the reduced flow nozzle in the directions. Solenoid control valves are available.

K1-05..... Standard unit with a five foot hose.... $1795
K1-10..... Standard unit with a ten foot hose.... $1845

We also manufacturer a "large area" snow attachment to the standard unit. Here, a small tube nozzle (diameter of 0.035, 0.045, or 0.062) is placed within a 1 inch OD plastic tube. The high velocity snow is transformed into a lower velocity snow. These units are aimed for cleaning large optics of micron and larger particle removal.

High Purity Units are intended for critical cleaning applications. These units include a cylinder fitting, PTFE lined stainless steel flexible hose, a stainless steel packless valve, and two nozzles: the asymmettric venturi is on the unit and the reduced flow nozzle in the directions. Units can be equipped with 1/8" OD SS tubing in place of PTFE tubing - $100.00 extra. The K4-10S has a high pressure solenoid valve (24 VDC power supply and footswitch) with compression fittings substituted for the electropolished stainless steel packless valve. This allows for operation with only one hand. The K4 units are also available with VCR or VCO type fittings on the valve, K4-10VCR. The K4 units can be packaged to "cleanroom ready" standards - an additional $300.00; ask for details.

K4-05..... High Purity Unit with 5 foot hose..... $1975
K4-10..... High Purity Unit with 10 foot hose.... $1995
K4-10VCR... High Purity Unit with 10 foot hose.... $2295
K4-10S.... Solenoid Controlled High Purity Unit . $2195

Variable Orifice Units can address both simple and general contamination control problems and also critical cleaning issues. There are two different variable orifice units - a standard one with a packed leaked valve with a polymer seal, and an all metal bellows metering valve. The standard variable orifice comes with a cylinder fitting, 10 foot PTFE lined stainless steel hose, a metering value with a variable orifice and 3 SS nozzles - inner diameters .05, .09, and .14 inches. The high purity variable orifice unit is made from an all metal bellows valve. The unit is equipped with a pressure gauge and an F3 filter (0.003 micron) as part of the price. This unit comes with a 10 foot PTFE lined hose. All connections are Swagelok - no PTFE tape or pipe thread fittings. Four electropolished nozzles can be supplied. The high purity variable orifice unit is similar to one from another company but at a reasonable price. Both units are equipped with a valve for manual on and off control (the metering valves do not seal). These units will come with an polymer handle and grip.

K5-10S.... Packed valve - NPT and Swaglock connections....... $1995
K5-10HP... All Metal Bellows Valve, Electropolished Nozzles.... $4995

Dual Gas Unit is a modified High Purity Unit (K4-10S) with the optional nitrogen purge flow co-axial to the dry ice stream. Each flow is controlled by solenoid valves (foot activated or via circuitry). One footswtich controls the the CO2 flow, the other controls the nitrogen flow. This unit comes only with the asymmetrric venturi nozzle on the unit.

K6-DG10... Dual Gas CO2 Unit... $2995

Ultra High Purity Unit are made from 10 feet of 1/8" OD SS316L tubing with CGA and Swagelock fittings, orbital weld construction and 2 nozzles. Interior surfaces are either chemically cleaned or electropolished. These units have one valve and are meant for fixed manifolds or for minimal movement. The tubing can be easily kinked and damage will occur. In-line filters are included. We do nto recommend these units unless they are almost entirely fixed

K2-CP.... Chemically cleaned tubing.... $2995
K2-EP... Electropolished Tubing...... $3595

Special Nozzles are made for special situations, large areas, inner or outer diameters or other unique geometries. These units are designed custom for most applications, though some standard width sizes are already available. Large area flat nozzles - the cleaning stream exits from a 20 micron slit of various widths.

K3-01.... 1 inch wide nozzle.... $3995
K3-02.... 2 inch wide nozzle.... $4595

Inner diameter nozzles - 0.5 to 1.0 inch ID - $3895.00

Cylinder Fittings

Our equipment can be used worldwide. In the US, we supply the CGA320 carbon dioxide cylinder fitting. In Europe, we supply the DIN 6 carbon dioxide cylinder fitting. For Japan, we supply the JIS 22R or 22L (you must specify) cylinder fitting. For the UK and its former possessions, we can supply the DIN6 or the BS8 fitting. For countries outside of US and Europe (DIN6), the purchase order must specify your cylinder fitting selection (CGA320, DIN6, JIS22L or JIS22R, or BS8); there are no extra charges for DIN, JIS or BS fittings.

Options

Options include filters, vacuum chucks and pressure gauges. Filters remove particles that can come from the CO2 source and equipment. We recommended adding filters for most cleaning applications. The vacuum chuck holds your samples. The one we offer is for flat samples but many configurations can be made. The pressure gauge, range 0 - 2000 psi, may be required by your safety rules since no regulator is needed. It tells you the pressure in your lines and when the cylinder is nearing empty.

F2 - sintered stainless steel rated at 0.5 microns $200
F3 - sintered stainless steel rated at 0.003 microns $250
Pressure Gauge 0-2000 psi on TEE attached to model K1, K4, or K5 (PG) $250
Vacuum Chuck For holding samples - custom made (VC1) $595
Pump Oil free vacuum pump for vacuum chuck $295
Stand (Stand photo) Stand to support the K4 or K5 units $200

Rentals

Test your applications before buying - Standard Units at $350.00 per month, High Purity Units at $400.00 per month - 2 month minimum. Rental costs are fully credited towards purchase. Within US only.
